This is the completed double page spread. I made up the questions ensuring that I included the infomation from the introduction on the left of the page. I wanted the questions and overall interveiw to be informal to show what sort of personality they have. I added a small picture in the corner of the the page showing them with another star. However I didnt mention this in the interveiw whereas I think I should have.

Fore my double page spread, i decided to do an interveiw. Therfore I had to make my layout suitable for this. As a group, two of us done an interveiw, and one of us did an article. We decided not to use the same layout as each other as the magazine NME didnt follow these conventions. I wanted a simple but effective layout, so I just used a block of colour to the left, and an image of the people who were being interveiwed on a strip in the centre of the page. I tried to use rule of thirds by placing the two people in the middle of the page. I placed the block of colour to the left as thats where the eyes tend to look first. In the title I used the name of the band and an image of a guitar to suggest their egdy style. I used the colour grey because it was one of the main colours on the front page. I used pink as this is the colour on one of "The Misfits" lips.
I wanted the pictures on my contents to be of a retro popstar. Therefore I took photos of someone wearing the same styled clothes as the models on the front page. The images would anchor one of the pages to the left.

As a group, we decided to keep the contents page simple. This way we could make all three look the same with ease. To show that this contents page was for issue one of 'Un-plugged', I used the same colour scheme and font. All three contents pages used the 'U-P' to show it's for 'un-plugged'. We also all used the same sub headings.

I then added a main strapline at the bottom of the page. I used text and secondary images and framed them with a black border so that they could stand out. I took into account the rule of thirds when adding this to the magazine cover. I wanted the text to be on the left and the images at the right. This is because the eyes automatically read from the right. The text also anchors the images. I used the same colours for the text that I used for the mast head to maintain a proffessional outcome on my magazine cover.
As a group we decided to use this photo for one of the magazine covers as it fit the conventions of the magazine we wanted to portray. The clothes worn by the models are colourful, bright and unique. It suggests to the reader that they too can be unique like the girls on the cover if they buy the magazine. The poses are confident and quirky. When we took the picture we had to take in to consideration the rule of thirds as this is one of the conventions of a magazine cover. The masthead, issue number and bar code are also general conventions. I edited the image so that the two models stood out. I did this by using the lasso tool to select the girls and make them brighter, I then lowered the saturation on the brick wall. I put the top of their heads over the mast head to suggest to the audience that the magazine is popular.

Here is another issue of the rock magazine 'NME'. As you can see from the previous magazine i analysed the magazine editors have kept the colour scheme the same: Red, black, white and bits of yellow. This is so it is recognised by the buyers. Compared to the other magazine, this front cover is quite empty, It has one large kicker and main image. This is what our eyes are drawn to at first because of the rule of third. There is no strap lines which is unusual for magazines because they show the readers what the magazine contains which sells the magazine. But i think that this layout is very effective because it is a well known magazine brand, As you can see half on the mast head is covered this is because the title can be recognised without seeing all of it because it is a popular magazine that is familiar worldwide. The costume that has been chosen for lily Allen reflects the colour scheme of the magazine the red and black compliment each other which makes the magazine stand out.

The masthead is one of the key features of this magazine. It is big and bold which makes it stands out. There is alot of colours in this magazine which isn't a usual convention of a front cover, there is normally three main colours but this front cover is different The blue masthead and fergie's outfit is one of the main colours. There is also green, white red and a vintage style wallpaper in the background. Although there is alot of colours going on in the magazine, the layout is quite simple there is only one main image, the strap lines are plain and straight to the point. I think if there was anymore images it would spoil the front cover and make it look too busy. I think this magazine would draw the attention of the consumer as it's exciting, and it's the image and strapline which catches out attention first.

This is a simple layout for a magazine. It contains a masthead a main image, a skyline, a kicker and a few strap lines. The magazine has a plain background which makes the main images of the women and the strap lines stand out more. I like the way the simplistic layout makes the magazine appear vintage and the models costume. This magazine breaks the generic conventions of a magazine.

This is one of the photographs we considered as a front cover for our magazines. We liked this image as the back ground and the bright funky clothes on the model contrast with each other and make the model the main feature of the magazine. It also looks urban which ties in with the genre of the magazine. This image has the conventions of a normal magazine (rule of third) However the reason we never choose this image was because we wanted the model to be on the other side of the camera shot so it would be simple to put the strap line on the left hand side. Also, this model was already used for another front cover for one of the three magazines.

This is another photo we took as a group. We also considered this as a main image. We were thinking of using it because we made the model pose as if she was holding onto something, then we were going to create it as she was holding onto the title. We could have used it using a typical convention of magazine front covers (rule of thirds)
We were unable to use it because the model is in another image on one of our other issues of magazine front cover. We also did not like the pose because the model looks uncomfortable and does not fit the genre of urban pop, which the artist look natural and fun looking. We also didn’t like the lighting because there were shadows and we could not get rid of them when we tried to edit it.
This is one of the photos we took, and as a group we considered it for the front cover. We liked the colourful costumes and the background wasn't too busy. We also liked the relaxed and urban poses of the models. However we decided not to use this image because one of the girls is already used in one of our other front covers in the same outfit, and we have to have 3 different issues of the magazine with 3 different images.

This is a rock magazine that would target teenagers and Young adults that are into rock music, gossip and artists. There are three main colors in this magazine they are: Red, black and white. The two main things that stand out in this front cover is the Main image and the kicker. The main image has the rule of third principle. It draws the reader in because the women takes up alot of the page and has eye contact with he audience. The women links in with he colour scheme her lipstick is red, her hair is black and her skin is fair which ties in with he rest of the magazine. Also the another thing that stands out is the kicker this is because it is big and bold. The contrast between the black and the white colour theme make it a key feature of the magazine, The font has a worn effect. The whole of the magazine is packed full of information, you can tell this by the kicker, strap lines and skyline.

Here is my conmetnts page for my school magazine. I have used the same style used on the cover page as well as the colours and font.

I then added a masthead, skyline, kicker and straplines for the finishing touches. The first image has no straplines, as I didnt want to overcrowd the page. But, I thought the kicker then looked too randon and out of place, so I changed my mind and decided to add straplines.

Here i have cropped the photo and added a base for the mast head. I then cropped out her finger so that i could place it over the base. I did this by using the lasso tool, copy and pasting it, then placing the layer over the base. I have only used three colours to make it look proffessional and realsitic. My choice for the three colours was base on the colours used for the lordswood girls school logo. The yellow i used was the same yellow of the background of the photo.

Using a didigal camera i took a photo of someone taking a photo of themselves. I ensured that the models face was in the centre, remembering to include the "rule of thirds". i wanted her face to be what the audience looked at first. I'm glad that the photo on the camera came out brighter rthan the rest of the photo for the purpose that it is eye catching. For the magazine cover, i plan to crop the phtot so that the excess on the sides is not seen.

A n a l y s i s . .

1) Are you close enough to the subject?

When we first look at this photo, we see the mouth and eyes, whereas if the camera was further away, there would be other focal points. Therefore, yes, I think we're close enough to the subject.

2) Does the main focal point of your photograph follow the rule of thirds?

When the 'rule of thirds' is applied to this image, the nose ends up in the middle sector, the mouth in the bottom, and the eyes are ruled out. However when we first look at the image, we notice the eyes and the mouth, rather than the nose. So

S a m p l e . . .

I used Photoshop to create a magazine cover. I didnt include more than two main colours, so that it looked professional. The use of straplines and other magazine conventions also portray a professional look. Megan Fox was used as my main image as she is both edgy and well known. I think that the main image and the masthead reflect one another, as she is tearing her clothes and she looks quite wild. The straplines anchor the main image, "The Sexy Ass Work Out".

I used the 'Magnetic Lasso Tool' to put the main image over the mast head. I did this by cutting out her head, copy and pasting it, then plaving it over the text, ensuring its covering her existing head.
